Academic Background:
Zaheer Shah studied medicine at The Medical School, University of Birmingham in 1989 and graduated in 1994. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps while at university and after his House jobs, served for several years with The 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, seeing active duty in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and Rwanda. His Urological training was based in the Midlands and he completed a fellowship in Egypt in the reconstruction of the urinary tract following bladder cancer. He accredited as a consultant in 2007.
In 2007 he was appointed as Consultant in Urological Surgery (Military) at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham specialising in major open surgery and laparoscopic prostatectomy. In 2008 he was appointed to The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, specialising in major open cancer surgeryand the reconstruction of the bladder.
He is still in the Regular Army and has recently returned from active duty in Afghanistan, where he served as a General Surgeon. He will be permanently based at The Royal Berkshire Hospital and The Berkshire Independent Hospital.
